The NFF made the announcement on Friday, December 31st, 2021. Victor Osimhen was ruled out of the competition because of COVID-19. Emmanuel Dennis was ruled out of the competition because of Claudio Ranieri's claim that the NFF sent the player's invitation later than expected. Shehu Abdullahi and Leon Balogun are also ruled out of the team because of injuries.
Henry Onyekuru will replace Osimhen, while Peter Olayinka has been called up in place of Dennis. The duo of Tyronne Ebuehi and Semi Ajayi will replace Abdullahi and Balogun, respectively.
The Super Eagles will hope all these changes do not affect the team's performance when the competition starts on January 9th, 2022, until February 6th, 2022. Nigeria starts its campaign against Egypt on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022.
