The Lagos State Police Command has addressed backlash over officers using tear gas at Mohbad’s memorial held at Lekki tollgate.

Spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin released a statement denying live ammunition was fired. He affirmed only tear gas was minimally deployed after attendees blocked the toll gate following the event.
Hundeyin explained organizers and police pleaded unsuccessfully for crowds to disperse peacefully before non-lethal force was reluctantly used.
Reports and footage of tear gas being shot sparked outrage given deadly force by police during 2020’s End SARS protests at the same tollgate venue.
However, Hundeyin maintains no injuries or casualties occurred, contrasting sharply with social media claims. He asserts minimal tactics were only employed after dialogue failed.
While police expected backlash, Hundeyin defended the actions as measured crowd control rather than aggression. The statement appears aimed at assuaging concerns.
