Referees Association Take Decision on VAR Mistake During West Ham vs Chelsea

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL)n the Premier League has taken a decision against the VAR official in the game between Chelsea and West Ham United.

The head of VAR, Neil Swarbrick has been taken off VAR duty following an incident involving Tomas Soucek in the game between the Hammers and the Blues on Saturday, February 11th, 2023.

During the 1-1 draw, the ball hit West Ham's Hammers Soucek inside the penalty area from a Conor Gallagher strike toward the end of the match. However, Swarbrick, the VAR official in charge of the game, chose not to tell referee Craig Pawson he had missed a possible penalty.

PGMOL has made a number of changes in an attempt to stop a reoccurrence, with Swarbrick being excluded from the next set of Premier League matches, Matchweek 24, along with Lee Mason for an error he made in the draw between Arsenal and Brentford.
