Ecuador's Enner Valencia has tied Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's historic World Cup record held by the legends since 2014.
Following a wonderful display in Ecuador's second FIFA World Cup 2022 match against the strong Netherlands, the captain Enner Valencia has tied a record held by football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo since 2014.
Enner Valencia became the only player after the two greats to score a total of six goals in the world cup group stages since 2014.
This is historic as the captain of the Ecuadorian side did not even feature in the 2018 edition of the competition held in Russia.
Ecuador pulled all the stops in their match against Netherlands and Valencia had scored the equaliser that saw the game end in a draw and secure another point for Ecuador.
