South African DJ Black Coffee became the first African DJ to win a Grammy Award at the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in the best dance/electronic album category.
At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Black Coffee became the first African DJ to win a Grammy Award, in the best dance/electronic album category, with his 2021 LP titled 'Subconsciously.'
Aside from the win Black Coffee also became the first South African producer and DJ to be nominated in that important category.
In his acceptance speech at the premiere ceremony, the artist said that,
“I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal some souls.”
