American singer, Trey Songz has reacted to the decision of the Nigerian police to redeploy SARS operatives to other units in the force.
Following nationwide protests, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police announced that the controversial unit will be dissolved and the officers would be redeployed to other units of the police force with immediate effect. This new development did not go well with Nigerians who have vowed to continue marching in their demands to end police brutality in all forms and make rogue officers accountable.
The singer had joined several international celebrities to lend a voice to the protests in the country. He wrote: “After doing a little research I would like to speak out against what’s going on in Nigeria right now. Their pleas to #EndSarsNow IS VERY REAL. I have so much love for my Nigerian fans and it’s so hurtful to hear whats happening.
Police brutality here in America often is an abuse of power driven by race. To be brutalized, extorted, and murdered by your own people is unimaginable. Prayers up and I’m researching ways I can help. #EndSARS”‘ Reacting to an article about the new development, Trey expressed disgust calling the decison bullshit. “Reading this article looks as though they just gon re-employ these same officers in different positions. BULLSHIT!!!”
