What does it take to be successful in the Nigerian music industry? That’s a question that millions of aspiring entertainers will pay to get answered immediately!
Four popular social media users @Dehkunle, @Pog_llins, @blvck_Witch, @MorrisBaker_ decided to get some answers and Nigerians came ready.
Here are some of the things you need on the Naija music scene:
- Team Talent and Goodluck:
Well, many Nigerians believe talent can go a long way in bringing about success. But is it really enough? Do you need a little bit of good fortune as well?
- Awon who talent epp?
A few were adamant that they are too many popular ‘talentless’ hitmakers and talent can’t solve anything without money or the right connections
- Money:
This is a table we don’t even want to watch fall!
- Superstar connections:
Errr… featuring superstars on songs is a strategy?!
- Good talent management:
A few believed that you can have all the money in the world, all the talent and superstar connections, but it would all go to waste without good management. Interesting….
The conversations didn’t just stop there. @_Omoissy was wondering what could be on the other side of the music industry? Apart from all the glamour, what has the music industry taught us?
- Don’t ever sign a contract without getting a lawyer to read through it!
- Drugs are a ‘talent-killer’. Stay away and focus on the music.
- @MissKitty415 scared us a bit with the talk on selling souls.
- This will pack a punch. Don’t think of instant success -it’s a journey. Don’t resort to cheap publicity stunts that can end up ruining your career – invest in good strategies that will ultimately help boost your career and not kill it before it has even begun. And always have a plan B – always!
So, do you agree with social media? Or there are more factors involved? At 3:00 pm on Friday, August 28, 2020, MTN is organizing arguably one of the dopest virtual series for aspiring entertainers, A and R execs, talent managers, called the Business of the Art Series.
Big names like Vice President, International Strategy & Operations at Warner Music Group, Temi Adeniji; Country Manager, ViacomCBS Network, Africa, Bada Akintunde-Johnson; Founder and CEO, Now Music, Efe Omorogbe; Founder and CEO, BHM Group, Ayeni Adekunle; Chief Consumer Officer, MTN Irancell, Larry Annetts; and CEO Music Time, Oye Akideinde, will be breaking down what it takes to make it in this industry. It’s free, it’s on Zoom and you can register right now!
You’re welcome!
