Although written in Pidgin English, the show was first performed at The Place Theatre in London and The Artscape Theatre in Cape Town, before coming home to Nigeria on Tuesday night; under a clear starry night sky.

Speaking on the decision to host ‘Song Queen’, the British Deputy High Commissioner Laure Beaufils said ‘I am honoured and excited to be able to give Helen Epega an opportunity to show her extraordinary opera in Nigeria for the first time. The talent and creativity of Nigerian artists are second to none and the British government is committed to supporting them, and strengthening the vibrant cultural partnership between the UK and Nigeria.”

Over 80 guests from across the art, business, & public sectors were treated to the enthralling story of a world of ethereal singers called “The Menemeh” who with their leader “Kanate”, create Earth’s peaceful reality through song. When harmony and peace is disrupted by the jealous powers of the stars, “Kanate” sets off for an epic journey to “The Venus Bushfires” to find the Peace Song to restore Earth’s balance.
