Social enterprise platform – WISH Africa in partnership with TAFETA Gallery London invited a small select group of patrons to The Young Collectors Brunch at The Wheatbaker Hotel, Lagos. The event took place against the backdrop of the prestigious ARTX Lagos art fair where TAFETA displayed works by Victor Ekpuk, Niyi Olagunju, and Nkechi Ebubedike.
Over the delightful brunch, there was animated discussion around which African artists were currently collected and which they WISH(ed) to acquire. The current personal collections ranged from Kadara Enyeasi and Gbenga Offo to Yinka Shonibare and Ben Enwonwu. WISH lists included the likes of Lina Iris Victor, Suzanne Wenger, and most unanimously, Nigerian artist Victor Ehikhamenor.
The event stood as a pre-cursor to the platform’s forthcoming large-scale event; the WISH Africa Expo 2019 which is set to take place in June next year in London. “We hope to keep the excitement and maintain the momentum which is developing globally for everything Africa by taking Africa to the world,” said Lola Emeruwa Taiwo, CEO LE Retail, promoters of WISH Africa EXPO. “The number of foreign visitors attending our local events over the last few weeks reconfirms that we are on the right track”.
Also, in attendance were prospective partners of the WISH Africa EXPO: Gabriela Sanchez de la Cruz, Head of Vlisco & Co; Lola Pedro, Founder, Pedro’s Premium Ogororo; Liam Freeman, Vogue International Features Editor (Conde Nast) and Hannah O’Leary, Head of Contemporary African Art, Sotheby’s.
