President Muhammadu Buhari has warned against playing politics with the tragedy of the deaths of soldiers who died during Sunday’s attack by Boko Haram Terrorists on Metele town in Borno.
The President who issued the warning against the backdrop of criticisms that have trailed the recent killings of military troops in the north east, especially by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), assured that the circumstances that have led to these deaths will be comprehensively addressed.
“They are heroes on the frontlines, fighting to make Nigeria a safer place for us all,” he tweeted on his official Twitter handle on Sunday.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had on Friday lamented what it called the incessant but avoidable killings of Nigerian soldiers by insurgents in the North-East region, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to give Nigerians explanation.
In the statement by the opposition party spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it was very worried by reports of alleged compromises and neglect of military formations in the North-East leading to the vulnerability of our soldiers, adding that “the Buhari presidency has been distracting our military by dragging our service chiefs to participate in his re-election campaign activities, instead of concentrating on their duties.”
The National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, had earlier led members of the National Working Committee to receive the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, before whom they claimed that Buhari was already compromising the military and other security forces as parts of efforts to muscle in the electoral process.
