It is quite clear that the pop powerhouses on the continent are South Africa and Nigeria.
A south Africa rapper “Cassper Nyovest” was asked years back, about hip-hop in South Africa as compared to hip hop in Nigeria, his answer received a lot of attention.
He said:-
The fact is he was very correct, most of Nigeria top rappers are indigenous, the likes of Olamide, Reminisce and Phyno.
M.I Abaga and Vector are the only popular rappers we have that rap in English with little indigenous language but they are arguably not in the same standard with Olamide, Phyno and Reminisce.
For their part, AKA, Cassper and Nasty C, are the three most prominent rappers out of South Africa, with huge relevance in other African Countries and other part of the World.
Olamide, Phyno and Reminisce are the biggest rappers in Nigeria, most neighborhood countries are still struggling to understand Yoruba / Pidgin english, so when you go deeper into Igbo and Yoruba, it’s like they can’t even hear anything.
