A former Sokoto governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, who is also aspiring for the presidential ticket under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has revealed how immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan made him join the party.
Bafarawa said that Jonathan was instrumental to his becoming a member of the PDP in 2014.
He made this disclosure in Yenagoa on Friday when he paid a courtesy call on Jonathan in his office.
According to him, “Jonathan is a real democrat who showed leadership by example of accepting defeat in order to ensure the unity and survival of democracy in the country.
“Jonathan was instrumental to my joining the PDP because of respect and trust.
“I did not join politics for the sake of money or personal interest. If I lose at the primaries, I will not leave the party, but work with whoever emerges as winner, for the sake of the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bafarawa had said he would not leave the party if he loses in the primary election.
“I will remain in the PDP even if I do not emerge its presidential flag bearer.
“As a democrat, I allow the people’s will to prevail. In every race, there is always a winner and loser,” Bafarawa said on Monday in Minna.
