#WorldCup Roundup: Cavani’s brace crushes Portugese hearts as Uruguay ends Ronaldo’s tournament

Edinson Cavani bagged two impressive goals to sink Ronaldo’s Portugal 2-1 in their round of 16 tie against Uruguay. Cavani’s 7th minute header opened the scoring after Luis Suarez fed him with a beautiful cross. Portugal was wasteful with the chances they had but Pepe’s header levelled the game in the 55th minute from a corner. However, Edinson Cavani had the last laugh as his 62nd minute curled shot (R2 for FIFA fans) ensured that Uruguay ran out 2-1 winners.

Cristiano Ronaldo was disappointing in the whole game and never really got going. He was well marshalled by Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez at the back. This result means Uruguay will face France in the Quarter-Final. This effectively ends the G.O.A.T. as both Messi and Ronaldo have crashed out of the World Cup.
